At Abiding Joy Senior Care Home we strive to find ways to bring joy to our residents. I must admit to being skeptical of the value of a stuffed weighted cat. I have been amazed at the long lasting joy that "Blackie" has brought to all of our residents, not just Blackie's owner.
Blackie has been the subject of many dinner time conversations. Sometimes the conversation is about how she was mistaken as a real cat. I admit to frequently wondering who let a cat into the house, when seeing Blackie out of the corner of my eye. Othertimes comments start about Blackie and the conversation circles about to stories of former cats that people around the table have owned. One of our other residents owned many cats in his life and he loves to tell us stories about the antics of his former cats.
On days when confusion occurs due to memory problems combing and petting Blackie seems to calm things down. Blackie has become a big part of the caregiving team at Abiding Joy Senior Care Home.
If you have a loved one that is living in an Assisted Living or other Senior Living situation that can no longer have their favorite cat, consider purchasing one of Blackie's weighted cousins.
